King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives (Darah) was established by Royal Decree No. (M/45) dated 5/8/1392 AH (14 September 1972 AD) during the reign of King Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to serve as the specialized institution for the history, geography, literature, and heritage of Saudi Arabia and the Arabian Peninsula.
Collecting, preserving, classifying, indexing, and publishing materials, documents, and manuscripts related to the Kingdom's history and heritage
Conducting research and studies on Saudi Arabia's history, geography, literature, and heritage
Publishing books, research, references, and encyclopedias related to the Kingdom's history
Organizing seminars, conferences, lectures, and related exhibitions
Cooperating with similar institutions and centers domestically and internationally
Recording and documenting oral narratives from witnesses of historical events
Digitizing historical collections and making them available electronically
Restoring and preserving historical manuscripts and documents
Promoting historical and national awareness among community members
