On the occasion of Founding Day (February 22), I would like to share a summary of the most important available historical sources about the founding of the First Saudi State in 1139 AH / 1727 AD by Imam Muhammad bin Saud.
**Primary Sources:**
1. "Tarikh Ibn Ghannam" - the oldest and most reliable source on the reform movement and state founding
2. "Unwan al-Majd fi Tarikh Najd" by Ibn Bishr - covers the period from founding to mid-13th century AH
3. "Al-Durar Al-Saniyyah" - a collection of letters and correspondence of reform leaders
**Secondary Sources:**
4. "History of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia" by Dr. Abdullah Al-Uthaymeen
5. "History of Al Saud" by Dr. Mohammed Al Zalfah

Important addition: regarding genealogies related to the Al Saud family and its origins in Diriyah, one can refer to genealogical documents preserved in Darah's archive. These documents trace the lineage from Mani' Al-Muraydi to Imam Muhammad bin Saud.
There is also a recent study published by Darah titled "Diriyah: Capital of the First Saudi State" that covers the urban and social aspects of Diriyah during that period.

I would also add that European travelers who visited Arabia in the 18th century left important observations. Among them is Carsten Niebuhr who visited Arabia in 1762 and wrote about the political situation in Najd. His notes are available at the Royal Library of Copenhagen.
