Darb Zubaida: The Greatest Infrastructure Project in Islamic History

Darb Zubaida is one of the most important and greatest historical routes in the Islamic world. It connects Kufa in Iraq to Makkah over a distance exceeding 1,400 kilometers. It was established by order of Lady Zubaida bint Ja'far, wife of Caliph Harun al-Rashid, in the 2nd century AH. It features: **Water Installations:** - More than 54 major stations - Massive water reservoirs (pools), some exceeding 50 meters in diameter - Underground water channels extending tens of kilometers - Wells carved in rock **Current Status:** I visited several stations along the route in recent months. Some stations are in good condition (like Birkat al-Kharabah) while others need urgent restoration. The Heritage Authority announced submitting Darb Zubaida's nomination for UNESCO's World Heritage List. This is wonderful news. Has anyone visited these sites recently?
