King Abdulaziz Foundation (Darah) achieved an unprecedented historic milestone by completing the digitization of over 200,000 historical documents as part of its comprehensive national heritage digital preservation project. This achievement reflects Darah's commitment to employing the latest technologies to preserve historical materials and make them accessible to researchers and enthusiasts worldwide. The project encompassed the digitization of diverse documents including royal correspondence, diplomatic treaties, and administrative records spanning different eras of Saudi Arabian and Arabian Peninsula history. State-of-the-art high-resolution scanners and multispectral imaging techniques were employed to handle fragile and deteriorated documents. The Secretary General of Darah noted that this milestone represents a pivotal step toward realizing Saudi Vision 2030's goals in cultural heritage preservation and digital accessibility. He also announced that Darah plans to launch an updated digital platform enabling researchers to access these documents through an AI-powered intelligent search system. More than 50 specialists in archival science, digitization, and library sciences participated in the project, alongside international experts from leading archival institutions. The project is expected to significantly enhance scholarly research and facilitate access to Saudi historical sources.
